Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes, I offer remote consultations on a HIPPA secure interface for certain questions and support. Telehealth is a good platform for observing a general feed and positioning, and problem solving some less hands-on issues. It does have its limitations and does not replace a direct evaluation of latch, tethered oral ties, supply, or weight-gaining issues.
How can I start working with you for lactation support?
Email Samantha@motherhoodandmoore.com, or click on the Contact link above. Once you reach out to support with a detailed description of what you are feeling/observing, I will get back to you to determine if we are a good fit. If I think you can benefit more from a different provider, (I certainly don't have all the answers!) I will provide you with resources and a referral to a different provider.
How should I prepare for my initial consultation?

Why would I need to see a Lactation OT versus another lactation practitioner?
As a Lactation OT, I am a specialized lactation professional with a healthcare/medicalized background in child development and feeding. This knowledge coupled with a background in maternal mental health helps me to holistically view that parent/baby feeding dyad as two separate beings that function together. Many breastfeeding infants and their grownups are referred to occupational therapy from their lactation providers for various reasons: baby requires oral mother therapy/exercises after frenotomies, baby needs stretching/therapy for torticollis, birth parent has a post partum mood disorder, birth parent has developed "mother's thumb," etc. As an OT AND a lactation provider, I can help with multiple facets of parenthood without having to refer out!
Do you take insurance?
I do not take insurance. As in most states, lactation providers are not licensed in Florida and most companies won't allow us to be in-network providers. UGH, I know! But I will provide you with a superbill (itemized receipt) for you to submit to your insurance within 24-48 hours. I cannot promise that they will reimburse you. Please contact member services for your insurance company directly to discuss.
My Insurance Won’t Pay For It! (So is Lactation Consultation Worth The Cost?)
As a mama of three who needed lactation help for all three of her newborns, my answer is a resounding YES! Although in-home consultations do seem expensive, consider its value alongside other items you would spend money on for your baby. High chair, swing... Would you be willing to pay that much for expert support? Professional help can save you money in the long run when it comes to formula costs and energy required to bottle feed. Although I am a HUGE proponent of Educated and FED is best, the cost-saving benefits of breastfeeding cannot be denied.
